The Windthorst Trojanettes (15-9) went on the road and picked up a pair of wins against Class 3A competition last week. Windthorst topped Henrietta in four (25-21, 25-16, 25-27, 25-22) on Tuesday, Aug. 31, and City View in three (25-15, 25-12, 25-22) on Saturday, Sept. 4.

Last Friday night in Haskell the Wildcats took most of the first quarter to get things going, but when they did the high flying spread offense racked up 27 points before halftime. Senior quarterback Ty Bates who left the game in the third period with an injury was 10 of 18 passing for 109 yards and 3 touchdowns.

JV Wildcats fall in season opener

Archer City’s JV took on Alvord on Thursday, Aug. 26 to open the season, suffering a 36-30 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. Quarterback Landon Smith threw a pair of touchdown passes to Noah Cornell and Kole Stovall and rushed for another while Sam Machtolff added a score on the ground.

The Windthorst Trojanettes (13-9) wrapped up tournament play with a third-place finish in the gold bracket at the Buckle Up for Lane’s Sake tourney in Nocona this past weekend. The Archer City Lady Cats (15-7) concluded its tournament season this weekend at the Buckle Up for Lane’s Sake tournament in Nocona after sweeping Jacksboro in midweek action. The Lady Cats made quick work of the Tigerettes on Tuesday, Aug.

The seventh-ranked Holliday Lady Eagles (19-5) took home another bronze medal in tournament play, this time placing third at the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Tournament in Argyle. Prior to their trip to Argyle, the Lady Eagles recorded a dominant midweek 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-10) win over Clyde on Tuesday, Aug.

Eagles prevail in ‘Battle of the Birds’

Holliday Head Coach Frank Johnson knew his team was in for a dogfight. After being dominated on both lines of scrimmage in a 28-0 loss a season ago against Iowa Park, the seventh-ranked Eagles (1-0) rose to the occasion in 2021.

Holliday outlasted the Hawks 20-14 on Friday, Aug. 27, at Hawks Stadium to kick off the 2021 campaign with a win.
