The state champion Windthorst Trojans football team is raising money for rings and a new monument commemorating the school’s third football title. According to head coach Chris Tackett, the main goal of the fundraiser is to pay for as much of the student’s ring as possible.

Cavazos named DCTF Assistant Coach of the Year

Windthorst defensive coordinator Juan Cavazos garnered the Dairy Max Built by Nature Assistant Coach of the Year announced last Friday by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Not only was Cavazos the top assistant in Class 2A, he received this honor spanning all six UIL classifications.

Archer County well represented on all-state squad

The Class 2A-DII schools in Archer County were well represented on the Padilla Poll allstate team. The state champion Windthorst Trojans took home the top two superlative awards as well as filled nine first team slots with six players. Archer City logged one first teamer and four second team players.

Windthorst had no answer for Archer City’s post play as the Wildcats knocked off their district rival, 55-21, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, in Windthorst.

The Lady Cats improve to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in District 9-2A play while the Trojanettes fall to 9-6 and 1-1.

Bailey Grant led the Lady Cats with a double-double, tallying her second-straight performance with at least 20 points. The junior forward logged 22 points and 11 rebounds to power Archer City to the win.
