Castles, Owen tabbed as next basketball coaches at ACISD

Archer City has called on a pair of familiar faces to lead the boys and girls basketball programs following the resignation of Andrew Morris and retirement from coaching from Amy Huseman. During the Monday, April 25, Archer City ISD school board meeting, Josh Castles, a current Wildcat assistant and Archer City grad, was picked to lead the boys’ program while Tyler Owen returns to where he got his coaching start to lead the girls program.

Friday, April 22 Archer City 19, Petrolia 1 After needing some seventh inning heroics to beat Petrolia the first go round, Archer City (17-6) made certain to take care of business early on against the Lady Pirates. The Lady Cats scored four runs in each of the first three innings before hanging a seven spot in the fourth to put the game to bed in a 19-1 rout of Petrolia.

Holliday’s Smith punches ticket to state

Holliday’s Makayla Smith shot 10 strokes better in her second round to earn a berth in the state tournament, firing a two-day total of 164 at the Region I-3A tournament on April 20-21 at Shady Oaks Golf Couse in Baird.
